The Indian High Commission in Canberra shared the information, stating that the Consulate General in Melbourne is actively coordinating with the friends of the victims.

Tragic Incident at Phillip Island: Four Indian nationals lost their lives in a drowning incident off an unpatrolled beach at Phillip Island in Victoria, Australia, on Wednesday. The victims, comprising a man and two women in their 20s, along with another woman in her 40s, were part of an extended family, as per local media reports.

Expressing deep condolences, the Indian High Commission in Canberra conveyed the heartbreaking news and informed that the Consulate General in Melbourne is actively coordinating with the friends of the deceased.

In response to the incident, the embassy issued a statement, saying, “A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in Australia, where 4 Indians lost their lives in a drowning incident at Phillip Island, VictoriaOur sincerest condolences are extended to the grieving families of the victims, offering them our heartfelt sympathies during this difficult time.

The @cgimelbourne team is in constant touch with friends of the deceased, providing all necessary assistance.”

The initial rescue effort at Forrest Caves beach was initiated by off-duty lifeguards at approximately 3:30 pm. Regrettably, three individuals succumbed to the incident on-site. The fourth victim, a woman in her 20s, was airlifted to a hospital in Melbourne in critical condition. Unfortunately, she later passed away, as reported by news.com.au.

The victim, aged 43, was on vacation in Australia, while the other three resided in the vicinity of Melbourne, as mentioned by Victoria Police Officer Karen Nyholm.

Phillip Island is renowned for its sea caves, and Forrest Caves, a well-visited tourist beach, is recognized by locals for its hazardous swimming areas devoid of lifeguard supervision.

In a related incident, back in 2018, two individuals from the same family, hailing from Telangana, tragically drowned in Australia’s Moonee beach, while another went missing.
