Delhi Experiences Intense Shaking Following a 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake in China

In a social media update on X, formerly known as Twitter, the National Center of Seismology reported that the earthquake took place at a depth of 80 kilometers.

New Delhi: Intense tremors rattled Delhi and the National Capital Region late last night. A seismic event with a magnitude of 7.2 struck the southern region of China’s Xinjiang. In a statement on X, previously known as Twitter, the National Center of Seismology indicated that the earthquake transpired at a depth of 80 kilometers.

Gentle tremors were experienced in Delhi and the National Capital Region on January 11, following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan. The quake’s epicenter was located 241 kilometers northeast of Kabul, and its effects were felt in Pakistan as well.

Today, a significant earthquake occurred in a remote, mountainous region of southwestern China, resulting in 47 people being buried. State broadcaster CCTV reported that over 200 individuals were “urgently evacuated” from the affected area.

The landslide occurred at 5:51 am (2151 GMT Sunday) in Zhenxiong County, located in Yunnan province, as reported by the state news agency Xinhua, citing information from local authorities.

In recent months, China has faced a series of natural calamities, with some incidents occurring in the aftermath of severe weather events, including sudden and intense downpours.
