Delhi experienced colder temperatures than Shimla today, with the minimum temperature dropping to 4.9 degrees.

Yesterday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 24.1 degrees, and the forecasts indicate that it is likely to remain around 24 degrees.

New Delhi experienced its coldest day of the season as the minimum temperature dropped below five degrees this morning, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) New Delhi-Safdarjung monitoring station, reporting a minimum temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius.

In a surprising turn of events, Delhi is currently colder than Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 6.8 degrees Celsius. Contrastingly, Delhi’s maximum temperature yesterday reached 24.1 degrees, and the forecasts suggest it will remain around 24 degrees. Meanwhile, Shimla’s maximum temperature is expected to settle at 15 degrees today.

Yesterday’s minimum temperature in Delhi was 6.2 degrees, marking the lowest in this winter season so far. The national capital has been experiencing below-normal temperatures for the past few days, with readings of 7.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, 6.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, and 6.5 degrees Celsius on Monday.

This morning, various monitoring stations across Delhi reported ‘Very Unhealthy’ air quality, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 250. In the Anand Vihar area of the national capital, the AQI reached an alarming 475, categorizing the air quality as ‘hazardous.’ At 9 am yesterday, the overall AQI was recorded at 358, indicating ‘very poor’ air quality.

In addition to the air quality concerns, several regions in north and northeast India encountered fog this morning, leading to reduced visibility. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted the presence of very dense fog in isolated pockets over Punjab. Furthermore, isolated areas in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura experienced shallow to moderate fog at 5:30 am today.
