Indian Student, Reported Missing Last Month, Discovered Deceased in London River

Following Mitkumar Patel’s failure to return from his regular stroll to the residence in London where he was residing, concerns escalated among his relatives, prompting them to file a missing person report.

London: The lifeless body of a 23-year-old Indian student, who had gone missing in the UK last month, has been discovered in the River Thames in London.

Mitkumar Patel came to the UK for his higher studies in September, and his disappearance was reported on November 17.

On November 21, the Metropolitan Police located his body in the River Thames near the Canary Wharf area of East London, and paramedics subsequently pronounced him dead.

“The Metropolitan Police have stated that the death is not considered suspicious,” said a spokesperson.

In response to the tragic incident, Parth Patel, a relative, initiated a GoFundMe online campaign, garnering over GBP 4,500 in donations since last week.

The fundraising appeal states, “Mitkumar Patel was a 23-year-old boy who arrived in the UK for higher studies on 19th September 2023.”

“He hailed from a farming family and had roots in a village. His absence was noticed since November 17, 2023. On November 21, the police discovered his lifeless body in the water near Canary Wharf. The news brought profound sadness to all of us. In light of this tragedy, we have initiated a fundraising effort to support his family and facilitate the repatriation of his body to India,” it further explains.

The appeal emphasizes that the raised funds will be securely transferred to Mitkumar’s family in India.

As per the ‘Evening Standard’ newspaper, the student had plans to relocate to Sheffield on November 20 to commence his studies at Sheffield Hallam University and take on a part-time position at Amazon.

Following his failure to return from his regular stroll to the residence where he was staying in London, concerns heightened among his relatives, leading them to report him missing. Subsequently, they discovered that he had left his set of keys behind.
