Recent reports suggest that Rohit Sharma is leaning towards not participating in T20 Internationals anymore, and discussions about his future in the shortest format took place prior to the commencement of the 50-over World Cup.

Since India’s T20 World Cup semi-final exit in November 2022, Rohit Sharma has been absent from the shortest format, with Hardik Pandya predominantly captaining the Indian team in T20Is.

Having captained the side, the 36-year-old Rohit Sharma boasts an impressive record of 148 T20Is, amassing 3853 runs at a remarkable strike-rate of nearly 140, including four centuries.

This is not a recent development. Over the past year, Rohit Sharma refrained from participating in any T20 Internationals due to the primary focus on the ODI World Cup. There were detailed discussions between Rohit and the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, regarding this decision. Rohit voluntarily opted to stay away from T20Is, and the choice has entirely been made by him,” disclosed a senior BCCI source on the condition of anonymity to PTI.
